Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA)

Division of Coastal Management (DCM)

The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) works to protect, conserve and manage North Carolina's coastal resources. DCM carries out the state's Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA), the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 (CAMA) through rules and policies of the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC).

Programs

DCM is responsible for several programs, including:

• CAMA land-use planning
• Grants for marine sewage pumpout
• North Carolina Coastal Reserves
• Public beach and waterfront access
• Permitting and enforcement

Data

The division also collects and analyzes data for erosion rates, wetlands conservation and restoration, and to assess the impacts of coastal development.
