Governor Cooper Extends Modified Stay At Home Order

Governor Cooper extended North Carolina’s Modified Stay At Home Order that requires people to be at home from 10 pm – 5 am to last through at least Friday, January 29. Secretary Cohen also issued a Secretarial Directive with stark warnings for North Carolinians to avoid indoor spaces without masks and gatherings between households.

Governor Cooper has signed Executive Order 184, extending NC's evictions moratorium through January 31, 2021. Also, households can apply for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) and the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) online at epass.nc.gov.

Water System Flushing Schedule

The annual maintenance flushing of Nags Head's water system to remove sediment and other deposits that build up over time is underway. 




What to Expect
Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.


When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the
following conditions:
  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water

In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.

Dare County Chairman to Present Virtual State of the County 2021 on Jan. 20

Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robert L. “Bob” Woodard Sr. will deliver the annual presentation, which will highlight the issues that were faced and the accomplishments that were achieved by Dare County during 2020. 

Viewers who tune in to the virtual presentation will learn how the county continued to provide important and high-quality services to Dare County residents and visitors throughout the year despite the challenges posed to the community by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Chairman Woodard will also share information about the wide array of events and projects that are currently underway and on the horizon in Dare County as residents and visitors look to the future at the beginning of a new year.  

Among the myriad upcoming projects that will be presented are College of The Albemarle’s state-of-the-art academic building currently being constructed in Manteo; the brand-new animal shelter on Roanoke Island, which will open to the public this spring; the
design and development of a shallow draft hopper dredge that will be used to keep Dare County waterways open; as well as many more projects that are being planned or currently underway.

Due to restrictions on gatherings caused by COVID-19, the event will be livestreamed on Dare County’s YouTube Channel, www.YouTube.com/DareCounty. Viewers who have questions for Chairman Woodard will have the opportunity to submit them via email during the presentation for a Q&A session that will end the event.
