Adopt a Bench at Dowdy Park

ThBenche Adopt-a-Bench program allows individuals and organizations to memorialize an individual or recognize a special person, achievement, or occasion by donating a bench within the newly constructed Dowdy Park. This will be a limited offering - the Town has identified approximately 20 locations where benches are needed within the park. These benches have been selected based on the overall design theme of the park as well as their long-term durability and warranty. Sponsors will receive a plaque installed on the bench for a personalized message.

General Requirements

Individuals, families, and non-profit organizations may purchase a bench. The price for the donation is $1,800. The benches are provided by Maglin Site Furnishings. Your donation covers a portion of the cost to purchase, install and maintain the bench. Bench donations are accepted on the basis that the Town will maintain them for 5 years at the location they were originally placed, after which the disposition of the gift is at the sole discretion of the Town. The Town will take every reasonable precaution to prevent a bench from being stolen (benches will be securely fastened), however, the Town will not be responsible for replacement should this occur. Donors are limited to two benches per individual or organization.

Each bench may have a plaque installed. The plaque is 5.875 inches wide and 2.125 tall and made out of aluminum which will withstand the elements. The color of the plaque is black with silver lettering. Letters are a standard 30-point font. Plaques can include up to four lines of text with a maximum of 25 characters (letters and spaces) per line.

Ordering Process

  1. Contact the Deputy Town Clerk to ensure availability (townclerks@nagsheadnc.gov or 252-449-2021). 
  2. Complete the Adopt a Bench Application & Payment Form online. Your payment of $1,800 can be made by credit card or e-check.
  3. Upon receipt of the form and payment, you will be contacted to confirm your order and ensure the details are correct including the wording on your plaque. Once the bench is ordered, it is anticipated that three months will be required to receive and install the bench.
  4. The Town will contact you when the bench is installed.
