Protect Your Pipes

Another cold snap is headed our way.

With freezing temps hanging around, now’s the time to make sure all your pipes are protected, and not just the obvious ones. Don’t forget:

  •  Outdoor showers
  •  Foot washes
  •  Hose bibs / outdoor faucets

Shut off the water, drain the lines, and insulate where you can. A few minutes now can save you from burst pipes and a major headache later.

If it’s outside and carries water, it’s fair game for freezing. Stay warm!

Shred Event May 16, 2026

Do a little spring cleaning and safely clear out old paperwork at the Town of Nags Head's Community Shred Event on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Nags Head's Town Hall, 5401 South Croatan Highway.

Bring your outdated personal documents and watch them be securely destroyed on-site. It’s the perfect chance to tidy up those file drawers, reduce clutter, and protect yourself from identity theft while you’re at it.

The Outer Banks Woman’s Club will also be on-site collecting non-perishable food items for the Food Bank. Donations are appreciated and will help support neighbors in need.

Items accepted for shredding include tax documents, bank statements, canceled checks, travel documents, paycheck stubs, ATM and credit card receipts and statements, insurance documents, and utility bills.

This free event is open to everyone.

Remember: dirty napkins, pizza boxes, party cups, plastic bags, plasticware, dirty plates, and dirty aluminum foil food coverings are not recyclable.

Prepping for the Big Game this weekend?

Remember: dirty napkins, pizza boxes, party cups, plastic bags, plasticware, dirty plates, and dirty aluminum foil food coverings are not recyclable.

Be the recycling MVP by making sure these common party items are not placed in your curbside recycle bin!

If you have extra recycling needs, feel free to use the recycling containers at Nags Head's town hall, which are available 24/7/365. We also have containers at our Public Services facility at 2203 Lark Avenue in the north end of town. They are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9 am - 3:30 pm.

Curbside recycling makes it easy for Nags Head property owners to reduce landfill waste and protect the local coastal environment, without extra trips to the recycling centers. Be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is $13.35/month.

View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers.

Thanks for recycling!
