The Town of Nags Head Board of Commissioners recently recognized Officer Shane Allen upon his retirement. Officer Allen has served with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, the Kill Devil Hills Police Department, and the Nags Head Police Department. During his tenure with Nags Head, he held multiple roles, including patrol officer, detective, and school resource officer, a role he served in with dedication since 2017. Known to many Nags Head Elementary students as Officer Shane, he made a lasting impact through his commitment to public safety and positive engagement with students, parents, and school staff. Pictured from left are Commissioners Bob Sanders and Megan Vaughan, Officer Allen, Mayor Ben Cahoon, Commissioner Molly Harrison, and Mayor Pro Tem Megan Lambert. We thank Officer Allen for his years of service and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.

Did you know? Recycling trucks are unable to pick up any items not placed inside the bin. Those items are all picked up by household waste and don’t get recycled. Cut and place all cardboard INSIDE the bin. If have extra recycling needs, feel free to use the recycling containers at Nags Head's town hall, which are available 24/7/365. We have containers at our Public Services facility on Lark Avenue in the north end of town. They are available M, T, Th, F, and Sat 9 am - 3:30 pm. Thanks for recycling! View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers. If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is $13.35/month.
