Our National Weather Service Office is monitoring the risk for some of the coldest air of the winter season Sunday night into Monday morning as a powerful cold front sweeps across the country.

Forecast lows across eastern North Carolina could fall as low as the mid 10s with wind chills into the single digits.

The front itself could also bring some light wintery precipitation Sunday into Sunday night. Monitor the National Weather Service website for more information as the forecast comes into better focus.

It's that time of year again when we will be cutting off the water at the dog park ahead of forecasted freezing temperatures (such as those expected this Sunday). We try to keep the water on during the winter as much as possible, so it may be turned on and off several times over the next few months.

If the water at the park is not coming out of the spigot, it is off due to freezing temperatures in the forecast.

Need to Winterize Your Nags Head Property? Please remind maintenance personnel to use the shut off valve on the owner’s side of the meter to turn the water off at the property for the winter. If there is no valve on the owner’s side, please call us to turn the meter off. Contact Water Superintendent Ray Schoonmaker at Ray.Schoonmaker@NagsHeadNC.gov or 252-305-6425 for more information.

Watch out for fake delivery notifications.

This holiday season, watch out for fake delivery notifications. Scammers may claim they need “address confirmation” or a small fee to release your package, so they can steal your money or personal information. Use the carrier’s official website or app to track your deliveries.

2025 2026 Holiday Sanitation Schedule

During the 2025/2026 holiday season, our office hours and sanitation collection schedules will follow special holiday adjustments.

All Town administrative offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday, December 24-26 and Thursday, January 1.

The bulk/brush yard will be closed Wednesday (as regularly scheduled) through Friday, December 24-26 and Thursday, January 1.

If needed, there will be additional trash dumpsters at Town Hall.

View the residential trash collection schedule and map.

Keep in mind that when taking  your holiday gift boxes out to recycling or trash, make sure to break them down flat and cut them up thoroughly. This can help conceal gifts that came in those boxes from would-be burglars.

Decorative cards that include glitter, foiling, ribbon, or felt are not accepted in your curbside bin. Look for classic paper cards instead!

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is $13.35/month.
