A significant number of Town of Nags Head water bills mailed recently have been returned, even when the mailing addresses were correct. After speaking with the postal service, we learned this may be an issue at their sorting center. If you still receive your bill by mail, please note that it may be delayed in reaching you. If you do not wish to wait for your water bill to come in the mail, you can sign up to receive it via email. If you would like to pay online, we offer free auto draft. Your account is drafted on the due date of the bill, so there would be no charge for that. Additionally, we offer free online bill pay. If you pay the Town of Nags Head directly through your bank via their online bill pay platform, they will not send us a paper check. Instead, they will send us an electronic check, which usually results in a next day settlement to the Town. Keep in mind that there are some small banks that do not participate in this. If you take advantage of the online bill pay, usually you can tell if they send an e-check or a paper check. Either way is free. If they send us a paper check, please allow up to 14 days for us to receive your payment. This is especially important to keep in mind when you are paying close to the due date. If you have questions or need additional information, please email Water@NagsHeadNC.gov. Thank you for your patience as we work through this mailing issue!

On October 1, we officially opened our new Ocean Rescue workforce housing, marking a major milestone in our long-term commitment to supporting its seasonal lifeguards and ensuring continuity in the Town’s Ocean Rescue program. The newly completed facility at 425 West Health Center Drive will provide safe, affordable, and modern accommodations for up to 16 lifeguards next season. Together with additional quarters currently under construction at the Town’s municipal complex on South Croatan Highway, these facilities will provide secure accommodations for nearly two-thirds of Nags Head’s summer lifeguard staff during the busy season. The newly completed project, part of Nags Head’s Town Campus Master Plan, has been in discussion for several years and represents a key step in addressing employee housing challenges. With a $1.5 million investment in the newly opened facility, alongside the additional apartments currently under construction, the Town is strengthening its support for personnel and ensuring lifeguards have the housing they need to serve the community effectively. The Town anticipates that this housing will serve as a model for other municipalities facing similar seasonal workforce challenges. Nags Head Mayor Pro Tem Mike Siers (pictured at the top of the stairs) joins Mayor Ben Cahoon, Commissioner Megan Lambert, Town staff, and representatives from Todd Coyle Construction, Beacon Architecture, and WithersRavenel, in front of the newly completed Ocean Rescue workforce housing facility at its official opening on October 1.

Oceanfront property owners and sand relocation contractors are invited to attend a meeting about the Town's Sand Relocation Program on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Nags Head Board of Commissioners room at 5401 South Croatan Highway. If you can't attend, the meeting will be livestreamed on the Town's YouTube channel. Equipment operators who attend the meeting will be placed on a list of sand relocation contractors that is provided to property owners at their request. We do not recommend specific contractors; we provide the list solely to help our property owners obtain assistance with sand relocation. We will also include detailed information about the Town's Dune Management Cost Share Program that can help reimburse owners for sand relocation and stabilization expenses. For more information contact Environmental Planner Conner Twiddy at 252-449-6047 or Conner.Twiddy@NagsHeadNC.gov.
