Join Nags Head Fire Rescue for its annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 5:30–8:00 p.m. at Douglas A. Remaley Fire Station 16, 5314 South Croatan Highway. This family-friendly event will feature fire safety activities, station tours, and important information to help keep your household safe. This year’s Fire Prevention Week™ (October 5–11, 2025) theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” Nags Head Fire Rescue is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®), the official sponsor of FPW™ for more than 100 years, to raise awareness about the safe use of lithium-ion batteries. From phones to power tools, laptops to lawn equipment, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere. While they are powerful and convenient, they can also overheat, catch fire, or even explode if not handled properly. That’s why this year’s campaign encourages everyone to follow the Buy, Charge, and Recycle Safely approach. Safety Tips from Nags Head Fire Rescue Buy Safely - Choose products that have been tested by a recognized lab and meet safety standards.
- Be cautious with products sold online that may not meet these standards.
Charge Safely - Always use the charging cord that came with your device.
- Replace chargers only with ones approved by the manufacturer.
- Charge on a hard, flat surface, not on a bed, couch, or under a pillow.
- Unplug devices when fully charged.
Recycle Safely - Never toss lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins.
- Use a designated battery recycling location. Visit the Call2Recycle.org website to find a site near you.
Nags Head Fire Rescue encourages all residents and visitors to practice safe habits when using rechargeable devices and to spread the word about this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Charge into Fire Safety.” Douglas A. Remaley Fire Station 16 5314 S. Croatan Hwy, Nags Head Thursday, October 9, 2025 5:30–8:00 p.m. For more information about Fire Prevention Week programs and activities in Nags Head, contact Nags Head Fire Rescue at 252-441-5909.
