Lifeguard stand locations through September 30, 2025

Through the end of September lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, at the Bonnett and Gulfstream public beach accesses.

Guards on roving ATVs patrol the beach through October 31, though this may change due to staffing levels.

Parking is available at the beach accesses from 6 am to midnight.

Reminder: Curbside Bulk/Brush Collection Starts Oct 1

Please remember that it’s still too early to place bulk items and brush by the road for curbside collection. Beginning October 1, our crews will start collecting these materials through the neighborhood sweep process.

When setting items out for collection, please be sure to:

  • Keep bulk items separate from brush.
  • Do not bag leaves.

If you’d like your items removed sooner, you can use our Bulk/Brush Drop-Off Yard, open daily (except Wednesday and Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A Town-issued sticker is required for entry (one per household).

Town Awarded $400,00 Grant for Hargrove beach access replacement

We’ve been awarded a $400,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality to improve the Hargrove public beach access. The project will replace the existing bathhouse and dune walkover, while also removing and rebuilding the current decking, emergency vehicle ramp, wooden stairs and walkways, trash receptacles, fencing, three shower stations, and signage, creating a safer, more accessible, and modernized beach access for residents and visitors.

Groundbreaking new Town of Nags Head Wellness Center and Ocean Rescue Housing

On Wednesday we kicked off the first project in our Town Hall Campus Master Plan: a replacement employee wellness facility and additional housing for our seasonal ocean rescue staff.

Our old wellness center, built in 1975, closed two years ago due to ongoing mold issues. While we had a temporary solution, we’re happy to bring back this important employee benefit that helps keep our 120 staff, with nearly half in public safety, happy, healthy, strong, and ready to serve.

This project also includes housing for 16 lifeguards, complementing the nearly finished ocean rescue duplex on West Health Center Drive. Together, these homes will provide safe, affordable housing for almost two-thirds of our ocean rescue team.

By combining wellness and housing in one project, we’re saving money while investing in the people who make Nags Head such a great place to live and visit.

Construction begins this month.
