Photos from the Town of Nags Head's Memorial Day ceremony on May 26, 2025.

Thank you to everyone who participated in or attended Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony. Although we usually gather outside at our Veteran’s Memorial, this year’s rain brought us indoors. Still, the spirit of remembrance and gratitude was as strong as ever, filling the room with warmth.

We would like to extend our thanks to those who helped make the ceremony so memorable:

  • Retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain Anthony Lloyd, for your inspiring words and reflections as our guest speaker
  • Family Pastor Ramon Sanchez of Nags Head Church, for your thoughtful and heartfelt invocation
  • Outer Banks VFW Post 10950, for your ongoing support and presence at our community ceremonies
  • Heidi Erickson, for your beautiful performance of the National Anthem
  • Bruce Erickson, for the moving Sounding of Taps
  • Mayor Ben Cahoon, for guiding the ceremony with poise and grace, even with the last-minute change in location

Thanks to each of you, the ceremony remained a powerful tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We are proud to be part of a community that remembers—rain or shine.

As a reminder, please do not put garden mulch bags, vegetable and flower pots, or any yard debris in the recycling container, even if the item has an SPI code on it. You'll search your specific city for instructions on how to properly dispose of those items (whether they want it bagged and at the curb or wrapped in twine- each city/county has their own requests).

Everyone is getting their gardens together for a beautiful bounty of veggies and herbs this year and we are here for it! Nothing better than tomato right off the vine, yum!

As a reminder, please do not put garden mulch bags, vegetable and flower pots, or any yard debris in the recycling container, even if the item has an SPI code on it.

All year long you can take yard debris to our bulk/brush drop off yard behind our Public Services Administration building at 2203 South Lark Avenue. A sticker is required to use the yard.

From October 1 through April 30 each year, we offer the curbside collection option.

Please don't bag your yard debris for the curbside collection. We prefer the same for the drop off option, but if you have it in bags, please dump the debris into the brush container and keep your bag so you can reuse it next time.

View a reference guide on what can and cannot go into our recycling containers.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at Town Hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our Public Services facility (2203 Lark Avenue), be sure to subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $13.35/month.
