Did you know there is a nice, easy trail right at Whalebone Junction? Next time you stop to use the restrooms at the National Park Service's Information Center on NC 12, consider stretching your legs on the easy, flat, 3/4-mile round trip hike that explores the maritime forest and leads to an old baseline survey marker from the 1800s that was vital in producing some of the first accurate maps of the east coast. To learn more about this and other hiking trails at Cape Hatteras National Seashore visit: https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/hiking.htm Photo and text courtesy of Cape Hatteras National Seashore
