Veterans Day Ceremony Nags Head Town Hall 11 am on 11/11/2024

The Town of Nags Head invites the community to join in a heartfelt ceremony honoring our nation’s veterans on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. This tribute will take place at the Veterans Memorial in front of Town Hall, located at 5401 South Croatan Highway.

We are privileged to welcome Lieutenant General Anthony R. Hale, Headquarters, Department of the Army, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, as our distinguished guest speaker.

Lieutenant General Hale brings a wealth of experience, advising the Secretary of the Army and Chief of Staff of the Army on intelligence, counterintelligence and security matters, and overseeing an enterprise of more than 60,000 soldiers and civilians.

Please join us in honoring those who have served for our country. This event is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. In case of rain, the event will be held in our Board of Commissioners Room, which is also located at our municipal complex.

Operation Green Light

Shine a Light for Veterans

Our brave men and women in uniform have selflessly served our country, and now it's our turn to show them our unwavering gratitude and support. From November 4 to November 11, 2024, Nags Head will light Town Hall and Dowdy Park in green to honor local veterans as part of Operation Green Light. Please join us in showing appreciation for their service by lighting your home or business with a green bulb.

Learn more at DareNC.gov/GreenLight.

Also, be sure to attend our Veterans Day ceremony Monday, November 11 at 11 am in front of town hall. It's a heartfelt event that pays tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.

Milling and paving taking place in the Whalebone Junction area.

Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation have begun the second phase of a project that includes milling and resurfacing the roadway on South Croatan Highway, and adjoining side streets, between East Gray Eagle Street and the Melvin Daniels Bridge. Most of us know this area as Whalebone Junction.

The first phase of the project, which is complete, involved replacing a pipe culvert under the highway, and two crossline pipes at the intersection of Cape Hatteras National Park Road and South Virginia Dare Trail.

During the project's current phase, single lane closures will be in place where the resurfacing work is occurring.

All work is expected to be complete by mid-November, weather permitting.

→ Motorists are advised to use caution, follow all posted signs and signals, and adhere to detour routes. ←

Water Service in Nags Head
Broken Water Meter

Attention Water Service Customers

Please be careful not to damage your water meter!

Recently, several property owners have accidentally broken their meters by parking or driving over them.

Help us keep your water service safe and reliable by following these simple reminders:  keep the area around your meter clear—avoid placing vehicles, trailers, plants, or debris nearby. Don’t drive over your water meter—this can cause serious damage to both the meter and the pipes underground.

If you’re unsure where your meter is located or have any questions, please give us a call at 252-441-5508.

Thank you for helping us keep our water services running smoothly!
