Every 44 seconds, someone is injured in a short-term rental. Act as your own safety advocate and know before you go.
Follow these few simple safety measures:
- Working smoke alarms in every sleeping room. Working smoke alarms outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home.
- Working smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one alarm sounds, they all sound.
- Portable fire extinguishers are in the house and are easy to access.
- Working carbon monoxide alarms outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home and in other locations as required.
- Be familiar with the floor plan and note all escape routes and exits.
- Everyone knows the address of the home.
- Upon arrival, everyone staying in the home should identify two ways out of every room and how to escape in an emergency.
- All doors and windows that lead outside should be able to open.
- An outside meeting place that is safely away from the home should be identified.
