Earlier today we held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the newly reconstructed bathhouse at the Epstein public beach access at 5701 South Virginia Dare Trail. This significant upgrade is part of the Town's ongoing strategic planning efforts to maintain and enhance public facilities, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors. The Epstein beach access has long been a favorite spot for beachgoers due to its prime location and amenities. The newly modernized bathhouse now offers an even better experience with state-of-the-art facilities designed for comfort and convenience. Key features of the reconstruction include: - Modernized Restrooms and Showers: Upgraded with contemporary fixtures and improved accessibility features to ensure a comfortable experience for all users.
- Enhanced Changing Areas: Expanded and updated to provide more space and privacy.
- Additional Storage and Meeting Space for Nags Head’s Ocean Rescue Team: New dedicated areas to support the vital operations of the Town’s Ocean Rescue division.
“One of our highest priorities in Nags Head is providing a safe and pleasant beachgoing experience for our residents, property owners and guests,” Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon said. “Our numerous beach accesses and bathhouses, and our professional, highly trained Ocean Rescue team, are key parts of that experience. This new bathhouse is fully accessible, clean, bright, and spacious. The second floor provides space for Ocean Rescue operations, allowing them to provide better services and coverage to this part of town. Among many Public Services projects undertaken over the last several years, this bathhouse is another illustration of the Town’s commitment to making Nags Head the best place to live, work, raise a family, recreate, or vacation.” We’d like to thank the Division of Coastal Management and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau for their generous support of this important project. We’d also like to recognize DJG Architects, who captured our vision, and Todd Coyle Construction, who brought that vision to fruition. The reconstruction project reflects Nags Head's commitment to investing in public infrastructure that supports community well-being and safety. By incorporating feedback from the public and collaborating with stakeholders, the Town has ensured that the new facilities meet high standards of quality and usability.

It's National Public Works Week! Throughout the nation, Public Works employees are often the unsung heroes essential to keeping communities thriving, working at all hours of the day and night, in all kinds of weather. Our dedicated Public Services professionals ensure our trash is collected, our public facilities are maintained, our drinking water flows seamlessly, our equipment operates smoothly, and our operations are efficiently administered. Despite the critical nature of their work, they frequently remain behind the scenes, rarely receiving the recognition they deserve. Thank you to our Public Services employees for your unwavering dedication and commitment to Nags Head. We appreciate all that you do!

Please consider attending our annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27 at 11 am. Held in front of the veterans memorial at Town Hall, this event serves as a tribute to the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to America. This poignant occasion offers a moment of reflection and gratitude for their unwavering dedication to preserving the freedoms we hold dear. We encourage you to attend and stand with us as we pay homage to those who have bravely served our country. The ceremony will provide an opportunity for individuals to remember and honor family members, friends, and fellow citizens who have selflessly given their lives in defense of our nation. We are honored to welcome Retired U.S. Navy Captain George Petro as our keynote speaker for this year's ceremony. In case of rain, the event will be held in our Board of Commissioners Room, also on the town hall campus.

Temperatures are warming up! If you bring coolers to the beach this weekend, help us keep Nags Head beaches clean by disposing of your bottles and cans in your curbside recycling bin (or the bin at the public beach access). For a quick recycling reference, click here: https://tfcrecycling.com/what-can-be-recycled/ Thank you for recycling right! If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $10.33/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town. **Beginning June 1, there will be a change in the cost of the curbside recycling service, which will rise from $10.33/month to $13.35/month. In response to this adjustment, the Town has decided to augment its subsidy to TFC for each residence, increasing it from $5/month to $6.50/month, to help alleviate the impact of the price increase. If you are a current subscriber, you should have received an email about this from TFC.
