We're excited to announce that our new bulk item/brush collection yard will open at 9 am Thursday, May 23! Consequently, the extension of our curbside collection service will end Wednesday, May 22. Do not place any items by the side of the road to be collected after that date. If you don't make that deadline, be sure to check out the new collection yard, and our new Administration building, at 2203 South Lark Avenue. We think you'll like them both. Don't forget: you need a permit to use the collection yard. The yard will have new operating hours! - Monday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We're now offering "Keep Off the Dunes" signs to property owners for $30 plus tax. They are available for purchase on the second floor of town hall, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5 pm. As you probably already know, dunes are essential for shielding our community from storms and erosion, but their stability depends on the vegetation that holds them together. Walking on the dunes damages these plants, leading to erosion and the loss of our natural defenses. Without the plants, the dunes can blow away, leaving our coast vulnerable. Investing in a "Keep Off the Dunes" sign is a simple yet powerful way to contribute to the preservation of our beautiful coastline. Thanks to Permit Specialist Kim Thompson for holding the sign!

Please consider attending our annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27 at 11 am. Held in front of the veterans memorial at Town Hall, this event serves as a tribute to the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to America. This poignant occasion offers a moment of reflection and gratitude for their unwavering dedication to preserving the freedoms we hold dear. We encourage you to attend and stand with us as we pay homage to those who have bravely served our country. The ceremony will provide an opportunity for individuals to remember and honor family members, friends, and fellow citizens who have selflessly given their lives in defense of our nation. We are honored to welcome Retired U.S. Navy Captain George Petro as our keynote speaker for this year's ceremony. In case of rain, the event will be held in our Board of Commissioners Room, also on the town hall campus.

News from the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles - The first turtle mom crawl in the northern Outer Banks has taken place this year, where the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles operates (Nags Head to the VA line). It wasn’t a nest this time — it’s called a “false crawl”, but it’s the official start of the nesting season. If you see a sea turtle on the beach or crawl tracks in the sand, please immediately call the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles hotline at 252-441-8622. To minimize disturbance to nesting sea turtles, residents and visitors are advised to heed the following tips. - Use sea turtle friendly lighting. Use low-power and low-frequency lighting angled downward to the ground. Residents and establishments close to the beach should pay special attention to cover fixtures as much as possible and keep them off when not needed.
- Keep the beach clear. Do not litter or leave behind beach equipment (leaving equipment on the beach between 8 pm and 6 am is prohibited). Demolish sand castles and fill in holes (digging large holes and leaving them unattended is prohibited, too). Consider cleaning up litter spotted around you.
- Respect zones around nests and on the dunes. Keep back to avoid accidentally stepping on eggs.
- Do not disturb females while they nest. Feel free to observe from a safe distance without making excessive noise.

Yes, you can recycle soup, stock, and milk cartons as long as they are quick rinsed. For a quick recycling reference, click here: https://tfcrecycling.com/what-can-be-recycled/ Thank you for recycling right! If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $10.33/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town. **Beginning June 1, there will be a change in the cost of the curbside recycling service, which will rise from $10.33/month to $13.35/month. In response to this adjustment, the Town has decided to augment its subsidy to TFC for each residence, increasing it from $5/month to $6.50/month, to help alleviate the impact of the price increase. If you are a current subscriber, you should have received an email about this from TFC.
