Parade Safety Tips

The St. Patrick's Day parade will take place on Sunday, March 17th at 1pm. The parade starts at Bladen Street and will travel north on South Virginia Dare Trail to Driftwood Street.

If you plan on attending the event, please follow these safety tips to ensure all have a great and safe time!

  • Arrive early. This will give you plenty of time to find parking and a safe place to view the parade.
  • Select a meeting spot. It's easy to get separated in large groups of people so it is always wise to designate a meeting spot in the event that this happens.
  • Stay behind the barricades. If you see a barricade, stay behind it. They are in place not only for your safety, but for the safety of the parade participants as well.
  • Stay off of the parade route. While it's fun when parade participants like to engage with the crowd and pass out goodies, it's also good to remember to always stay in your area. Never go near any animals and stay visible when around all vehicles.
  • Dress for the weather. Check the weather before the event and dress accordingly. Be sure to bring extra layers.
  • Designate a driver. ALWAYS designate a sober driver. Never drive drunk.
  • Above all, have fun and stay safe.
Septic Health: Small steps to Avoid Costly Repairs

Dare County has released a helpful video on our wastewater MVPs – SEPTIC SYSTEMS!

Did you know that about 80% of the properties in Nags Head use a septic system? If you aren't familiar with septic systems as opposed to sewer systems, take a moment to learn more about these underground wonders that keep our wastewater woes at bay by watching Dare County's short video.

Remember, a well-maintained septic system is a happy septic system!  So, be sure to check out our Todd D. Krafft Septic Health Initiative, which offers, to Nags Head property owners, free services AND financial assistance for those having their septic systems pumped, repaired, or replaced.

Be sure to call Environmental Planner Conner Twiddy at 252-449-6047 if you have questions or need more information.
