Curbside Bulk Item/Brush Collection Ends for the Season April 30

Be sure to get your bulk items and brush to the side of the road in front of your home by April 30. DO NOT place your materials out for collection after that date.

Please separate your items by type, and place them at least three feet apart (limbs three feet apart from a sofa, for example) and three feet from obstacles like fences and mailboxes.

Again, please do not place any items out for collection after April 30. Instead, take your items to our drop off yard at 2200 Lark Avenue. You'll need a permit to be able to use the yard. Visit the bulk trash web site for information on obtaining a permit.

Beach Access Availability Update

Beach Access Availability Update

We're still working hard to update and improve our infrastructure, which includes our beach accesses. We thought you would like to know the following:

  • We expect the Bladen public beach access to be closed Monday, May 1 for resurfacing work, weather permitting. This should be a very short-term closure.
  • The updates we've made to the Hollowell and Conch public beach accesses are nearly complete and we hope the accesses will re-open next week.

Join a Town board or committee.

Play a Vital Role in Your Community by Volunteering for a Town Board or Committee

What is a local government if it is not made up of representatives from the community and reflective of the community's values?

Volunteer participation ensures all voices are heard within a local government. Our boards and committees perform a vital role in our community, often recommending policies and procedures that form the basis of many of the Town's decisions.

Complete an online application at NagsHeadNC.gov/BoardsandCommittees. or contact the Town Clerk's Office at 252-449-2009 or via email at Info@NagsHeadNC.gov.

You'll find many different types of plastic bottles around your home. Recently, TFC Recycling received this picture with a mix of household items. Are they recyclable? Yes! TFC can accept #1 and #2 plastic bottles, as long as they are properly rinsed and the pumps are removed.

Hit the brakes before dropping this in the bin, aerosol cans are a fire hazard!

Though aluminum cans are recyclable, aerosol cans should be disposed of at a hazardous waste collection event (keep reading below).

Good news! The Dare County Public Works Department is hosting a three-day household hazardous waste collection event from May 11-13, 2023 at locations in Kitty Hawk, Buxton and Manteo.

During this event, Dare County residents and property owners can drop off any of the following hazardous materials for safe disposal:

  • Paints, polishes, varnishes, turpentine, aerosol cans and adhesives
  • Gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, fuel additives, automotive batteries and automotive fluids
  • Household cleaners, mercury, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides
  • Pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs and small batteries

Visit DareNC.gov/PublicWorks for more information.

Thanks for recycling right, Nags Head.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $9.60/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.
