Potential Marine and Coastal Impacts Next Week

Water System Flushing Taking Place Hands under running water.
Water System Flushing Update
Monday, November 7, 2022 - Thursday, November 10, 2022

Water flushing will be taking place from Gull Street and progressing south. Following are areas that will be impacted: Nags Head Causeway, Pond Island, Lone Cedar subdivision and then from Whalebone Junction south on South Old Oregon Inlet Road to the Oregon Inlet Marina.

We will be flushing our water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time. If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

What to Expect

Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

?? low water pressure
?? no water pressure
?? discolored water

In addition, you should raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.

If you have any questions, please call 252-441-1122.

Veterans Day Trash Collection and Town Office Schedule

All Town of Nags Head administrative offices will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2022.

The only change to the residential sanitation collection schedule is that the green route trash will be collected on Thursday, November 10 instead of on Friday, November 11 as usual.

The above is same for the commercial schedule. Instead of commercial trash being collected on Friday, it will be collected on Thursday.

One page brochure advertising Veterans Day ceremony at NH Town Hall on 11/11/22 at 11 am.

You won't have to be in town this year to see our popular Veterans Day ceremony. We'll be livestreaming the event on our YouTube channel starting at 11 am. The ceremony is usually anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes long.

If you can join us in-person, we'll have a special speaker and live music. We'll also lay a beautiful wreath at our veterans memorial. We hope you can take a few minutes out of your day to honor the sacrifices, courage, and patriotism of the men and women who have worn a military uniform.

Dowdy Park Holiday Farmers Markets 11/12, 11/26, and 12/10 9 am to 12 pm and 12/10 from 4-y pm.

Before you put bulk trash and brush out for collection, check NagsHeadNC.gov to find out where we'll be collecting.

Fall Back Safely - Test Smoke Alarms

Fall back safely this Sunday, November 6th! Make sure your smoke alarms are in good working shape per U.S. Fire Administration recommendations.

Once a month: Test smoke alarms.

Once a year: Change replaceable batteries.

Prevent Cooking Fires

DYK: Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries.

  • Keep an eye on what you fry. Most cooking fires start when someone is frying food.
  • Watch what you are cooking. Fires start when the heat is too high. If you see any smoke or the grease starts to boil, turn the burner off.
  • Make sure you are awake and alert. Alcohol and some drugs can make you sleepy.
  • Wear short sleeves or roll them up so they don’t catch on fire.
  • Make sure children and pets stay at least 3 feet away from a hot stove.
  • Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so no one can bump them or pull them over.
  • Move things that can burn away from the stove. This includes dishtowels, bags, boxes, paper and curtains.

Are you a precycler? Precycling is a way to reduce waste by choosing unpackaged, reusable, or recyclable products while you shop. For example, choosing loose vegetables over plastic wrapped foods. We love recycling, but remember: reducing and reusing should come first! Tell us what you'll precycle on your next shopping trip.

If you don't have time to haul your recyclables to the recycling centers we have at town hall (5401 South Croatan Highway) and our public services facility (2200 Lark Avenue), subscribe to the curbside recycling collection service offered by TFC Recycling. The cost is only $9.60/month thanks to a $5/month subsidy from the Town.
