Town of Nags Head
Nags Head Septic Health Risk Assessment - Many Parts of Nags Head are at Risk

Town Manager Andy Garman and Town Engineer David Ryan were asked to speak to the State Water Infrastructure Authority earlier this week to discuss our Todd D. Krafft Septic Health Initiative Program and the related decentralized wastewater management plan update.

The Town's Septic Health Initiative, a voluntary program available to Nags Head property owners, offers free services and financial assistance for system pump outs, repairs, or replacements.

"This was a great opportunity to discuss how decentralized wastewater programs can work with the right management tools," said Town Engineer David Ryan. "Historically, funding at the state level has prioritized more traditional infrastructure such as water, centralized wastewater collection and treatment, and stormwater infrastructure. We believe that septic system performance is as important as other more traditional infrastructure, but does not have the same funding opportunities to be able to progress or expand decentralized programs."

Although the discussion was focused on decentralized wastewater systems, Andy and David highlighted the Town's holistic approach with groundwater management tools that consider the intersection between groundwater, on-site wastewater, stormwater and surface water.

INC Towers Project Seeks Your Input on Wind Energy in North Carolina

The NC Taskforce for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies (NC TOWERS), of which Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon is a member, wants to hear from you!  This survey is designed to gather feedback from key stakeholders - like you - regarding the responsible development of offshore wind energy in North Carolina.

It will be especially helpful to the Taskforce to identify the information needs that stakeholders have on the topic of offshore wind.

This feedback will inform the work of the NC TOWERS taskforce, which is charged with advising and providing recommendations to Governor Cooper and the N.C. General Assembly on the responsible development of offshore wind energy in North Carolina. Individual answers will not be shared. Answers from all stakeholders will be compiled into a summary report for the NC TOWERS taskforce.

Photo of discarded pool equipment - no pool equipment in recycling cart.

Labor Day has passed and schools are back in session. That means many pools will be closing up for the season.

While you're cleaning up, remember that pool equipment, floats, toys, and other poolside items do not belong in the recycle bin. Discard them in your waste bin or donate gently used items.
