Town of Nags Head
The South Memorial Avenue drainage replacement project is underway! Work should continue for the next 8 to 12 weeks, weather permitting. If property owners have landscape or other above-grade improvements in the right-of-way on South Memorial, they should remove them. For smaller landscape improvements, the items can be re-installed post-construction. The contractor will attempt to relocate and re-install Items left in the construction's path, but there are no guarantees. Visit http://nagsheadnc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=592 for more information.

Water System Flushing Taking Place

The Town of Nags Head is conducting the annual maintenance flushing of its water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time.

If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

Read the Water Flushing FAQs.

What to Expect
Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water
In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.
If you have any questions, please call 252-441-1122.

Schedule
  • Monday, February 14, 2022 through Friday, February 18, 2022
    • From Barnes Street south to Hollowell Street on South Virginia Dare Trail and South Croatan Highway, including Wrightsville and Memorial Avenues, Linda Lane, Villa Dunes Drive, and the North Ridge and Vista Colony neighborhoods.

Mayor Ben Cahoon attended the inaugural meeting of the North Carolina Task Force for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies last week in Wilmington. The State government-led panel, NC TOWERS, brings together elected officials, business leaders, and clean energy advocates to boost our state's economic environment for wind power projects. The 30-member group, housed in the Department of Commerce, met last week to review an outside consultant's report on wind energy. Mayor Cahoon, the only local government elected official on the panel, is pictured with NC Department of Commerce Chief of Staff and Task Force Chair Marqueta Welton. A video of the meeting is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhlHKGupRBs.

We found this in the small kitchen area at Nags Head's town hall today. Thank you to the employees who put this up to remind us that this is a great credo to live by.
