Water System Flushing Taking Place

The Town of Nags Head is conducting the annual maintenance flushing of its water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time.

If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

Read the Water Flushing FAQs.

What to Expect
Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water
In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.
If you have any questions, please call 252-441-1122.

Schedule
  • Monday, January 31, 2022 through Friday, February 4, 2022
    • From Eighth Street to Barnes Street south on South Virginia Dare Trail and South Croatan Highway, including the Nags Head Pond, Nags Head Acres, and Vista Colony neighborhoods.

We're building a new sidewalk on Bonnett Street.
Sidewalk installation is taking place on West Barnes Street its intersection with South Croatan Highway.
Map of 2022 Town of Nags Head sidewalk construction projects.

This winter we're working hard to make it easier to get around our beautiful little town without a vehicle by building several sidewalks. The top photo is the work that's been completed on East Bonnett Street. Construction has now moved to West Barnes Street. As of today, work is taking place close to the street's intersection with South Croatan Highway, so be careful in that area. After these two sidewalks are complete, we'll move to West Seachase Drive, as you can see in the map above.

As you move your bulk trash/brush to the roadside for collection, keep these two things in mind: check www.nagsheadnc.gov/bulktrash to ensure we'll be in your area soon to collect the trash & sort the items as they appear in this image.

FYI - We'll be moving back to the week 1 phase of our curbside collection of bulk items and brush next week. So, if you're in a neighborhood west of South Croatan Highway and north of Jockey's Ridge State Park, get those items you want collected to the side of the road by Monday, January 31, 2022 (and be sure to sort them as pictured above). Thank you!
