Weekend Coastal Storm

With the threats forecasted by US National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC, we want you to be aware of the following:

There is increased confidence that strong winds will occur mainly along the coast Sunday into Sunday night, with moderate to major ocean overwash and coastal flooding now possible. 

This storm could bring ocean overwash to South Old Oregon Inlet Road and sections of South Virginia Dare Trail in the historic area across from Jockey's Ridge State Park. 
Additionally, there is an increasing flooding rainfall threat.

Streets will likely have ponding, so if you must drive this weekend, especially on Sunday, drive extra cautiously.

TRASH COLLECTION
Due to the expected high winds, ALL residential sanitation collection will occur on Tuesday and Friday next week. Please DO NOT roll ANY carts to the street until Monday evening. 

Curbside Bulk/Brush Collection - Collection Taking Place in Week Two Sector Starting Tuesday, November 9

We just wanted to remind you that we're collecting bulk items and brush from the curbside via sectors. Each week of the month we'll be collecting in one of four areas:

• Week 1 – Westside Neighborhoods (West of US 158) and North of Jockey’s Ridge State Park

Industrial Park/ Carolinian Circle/Nags Head Pond/NH Acres/Vista Colony/Woodhill/The Villas/Villa Dunes/North Ridge

• Week 2 – Westside Neighborhoods (West of US 158) and South of Jockey’s Ridge State Park

Soundside/South Ridge/The Cove/Village at Nags Head/Lakeside/Cedar Island/Pond Island/Causeway

• Week 3 – East of US 158 from Hollowell Street South to South Nags Head

• Week 4 – East of US 158 from Eighth Street South to Hollowell Street 

Properties between the highways - all neighborhoods between US 158 and along South Virginia Dare Trail

The Town of Nags Head is updating its Decentralized Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP) and would like to hear your feedback! Join us virtually on November 18th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM to learn more about the update of the DWMP and share your thoughts on the future of septic system management in the Town of Nags Head. Decentralized Wastewater Management Plan Input Needed

We're updating our Decentralized Wastewater Management Plan and we need YOUR input! 

As background, to help homeowners continually maintain septic systems, the Town created the Septic Health Initiative in 2000 for Nags Head residents. In 2005, the Town approved a Decentralized Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP) that more clearly outlines the importance of septic health, maintenance, and education in relation to our region's water quality. (In 2019, the Septic Health Initiative was renamed in honor of Todd D. Krafft, an employee who tirelessly managed and promoted the program.) 

The short survey only takes only six minutes to complete. We're looking for feedback that will guide  and suggest changes and additions to the Decentralized Wastewater Management Plan and Septic Health Initiative.
