Weather Alert

Coastal Low to Bring a Variety of Impacts to the Area

Forecasters at the National Weather Service's Morehead city office are forecasting a coastal low to bring a variety of impacts to our area tonight and into tomorrow. As of their latest briefing from 7 am this morning, the Outer Banks could see between 1 and 2 inches of snow.

As we mentioned in yesterday's email, trash carts on Nags Head's Blue Sanitation Route were emptied this morning in case bad weather made it too dangerous to empty the carts on the usual Friday schedule.

If any Town services or office schedules are impacted by the storm, we will forward the information to you via this forecast.

Note-although the two images below include information about driving in winter weather, your best bet is to stay home, if at all possible.

New Security Measures at Nags Head's Town Hall

New Security Measures at Town Hall

We're implementing new security measures at town hall So, on your next visit you may be asked to sign in before you can go beyond the reception area. We still love our visitors and enjoy showing off the artwork at town hall, but we have to keep our building safe for everyone.

As a side note, if you have not checked out the incredible collection of regional artwork at Town Hall, be sure to visit sometime (Town Hall is open M-F from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm). You can also watch a video about the collection featuring former Nags Head Mayor Bob Muller, Nags Head photographer Ray Matthews, and art critic and Town artwork selection committee member, Mary Ellen Riddle.

We're looking for housing for our team of highly-trained, professional lifeguards. If you can help, please contact Ocean Rescue Captain Chad Motz at chad.motz@nagsheadnc.gov.

Census 2020 Taking Place

Census 2020 Coming Up

The 2020 Census is coming, and everyone living in Dare County should be counted (even children).

A complete and accurate count is vital for the entire community.  The Census is conducted just once every ten years as required by the United States Constitution. The basic data it collects helps to shape the future for you, your family, and your neighbors. It informs the allocation of funding for the community as well as determines the number of seats each state gets in Congress. Every person (both citizens and non-citizens) living in Dare County at the time of the Census must complete the survey.

Everyone is affected by this count. If you drive on a road, cross a bridge, have children in school, go to the doctor's office or hospital, require special assistance from federally funded programs, or use any other public service, join us and make the pledge to participate in the 2020 Census.

Visit Dare County's Census 2020 web site for more information.
