Water service has been restored. However, we advise that consumers boil all water for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food), or use bottled water until a bacteriological test is performed 24 hours from now. We will update this website once that test is performed and it is safe to drink the water again.

Water service has been turned off to properties in Old Nags Head Cove north of Danube Street due to emergency repairs needed because of a water main break in the area. Impacted properties are being notified by a door hanger.

Periods of low or no water pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for back siphoning and the introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, we advise that once pressure is restored, consumers boil all water for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food), or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Samples will be collected from throughout the impacted area to confirm the microbiological quality as soon as pressure is restored.

This advisory is in effect until further notice is issued.

For more information or call the Nags Head Water Department at 252-305-6067.
