A beach restoration project will take place this summer (2022) from 8031 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (Comfort Inn South) near Mile Post 16 south to Nags Head's corporate limits abutting Cape Hatteras National Seashore near Mile Post 21.
*Oceanfront properties and public beach accesses along South Virginia Dare Trail will NOT be impacted by the project.
July 8, 2022 Schedule Update
Construction is being delayed due to expected high surf, so the project start may be delayed a few days.
The plan, as it is today, is for construction to begin near 10011 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 972) and proceed south to 10435 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 1025), where the southern end of the project area. Then, construction will return to near 10011 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 972) and proceed north to about 9405 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 920). This phase of construction should be completed by the end of July or the beginning of August.
In mid-to-late August, a second dredge will arrive and construction will begin construction near 9021 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 888) and progress south to near 9405 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 920). Then, construction will return to near 9021 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 888) and proceed north to near 8645 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 855). This phase of construction should be completed by the end of August or the beginning of September.
Construction will then begin near 8407 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 822) and proceed south to near 8645 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 855). Then, construction will return to near 8407 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 822) and progress north to 8031 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (station 790), which is the northern end of the beach restoration project area. This phase of construction should be completed by the middle of September.
June 28, 2022 Schedule Update
Beach restoration project construction is now expected to take place from July 13 through early September 2022.
Equipment mobilization is underway and de-mobilization is expected to take place in September.
Remember, it is likely the schedule will change over the course of the project.
