[ARCHIVED] Town Seeks Volunteers for Estuarine Shoreline Management Plan Advisory Committee

Volunteer FB Post

The Town of Nags Head is looking for volunteers to serve on the Advisory Committee for the creation of the Estuarine Shoreline Management Plan.  The purpose of this committee is to provide guidance and feedback to staff and the consultant on the development of an Estuarine Shoreline Management Plan.   The principal purpose of the Plan is to develop strategies that will prioritize living shoreline management projects appropriate for each segment of the Town's shoreline.  The Plan will further set overall policy recommendations appropriate for adjacent land uses, examine legal issues, and explore how sea-level rise will impact the long-term management of the estuarine shoreline.

As an advisory team member, you will help to identify and engage stakeholders, attend community meetings, provide feedback on the plan elements including overall goals, policies, and project prioritization, and have local knowledge of the estuarine system, and/or recreational usage of the sound.   Team members will attend periodic meetings over a 12-month period dependent on the project schedule. Although we invite all who are interested to apply, those who are avid recreational users of the sound (i.e. kayaking, fishing, kiteboarding, boating) or are a landowner adjacent to the estuarine shoreline are desired. All those that have applied will be considered for appointment by the Town’s Mayor and Commissioners at a future meeting of the Board.

All who wish to apply should email Holly White, holly.white@nagsheadnc.gov and Kate Jones, kate.jones@nagsheadnc.gov. Please provide answers to the following questions:

  1. Name
  2. Address (permanent and/or local property address)
  3. Occupation
  4. Educational Background
  5. Knowledge and/or experiences with the estuarine system and shoreline including but not limited to kayaking, fishing, kiteboarding, boating, or adjacent landowner.
  6. Why you believe you would be an asset to the Advisory Team (300 word max)

The deadline for submittal is on Wednesday, August 4th before 5:00 p.m.
