Survey work is currently in progress within the Old Nags Head Cove Subdivision for the planning of a proposed Fall 2021 Capital Improvement Project (CIP) construction. WithersRavenel, a sub-consultant to the Town, is in the process of mapping the existing surface conditions and underground utilities in an area focused in the section of the neighborhood located south of W. Danube St. The extent of the fieldwork will encompass: S. Roanoke Way, W. Sandpiper Terrace, S. Blue Marlin Way, Albacore Dr., Dolphin Ct., Amberjack Ct., W. Tarpon Ct., S. Pamlico Way, S. Cobia Way, W. Fin Lane, S. Pompano Ct., W. Old Cove Rd., and the eastern portion of W. Danube St. The data collected from this fieldwork will be processed and incorporated into design documents for the planning of a large-scale waterline replacement, roadway, and drainage improvement project.
The survey team is currently applying ground-painted markings to denote the location of existing underground utilities. Some ground markings may overlap onto private property to capture the direction and alignment of the subsurface utilities. Once marking is complete, a follow-up aerial survey, via an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), or survey drone, will document the utility locations for incorporation into the planning and design process.
Prior to construction, a public meeting will be held for the residents of the impacted portions of the neighborhood to review the proposed project design, schedule, and construction-related activities.
