Wonder why you are still seeing ponding water after several days without rain?
Recently we received several phone calls regarding standing water on portions of South Virginia Dare Trail and South Old Oregon Inlet Road after a long period of dry weather. Some of the callers believed a water main break had occurred in the area.
No water main break, just groundwater that had risen after a prolonged period of high tides from the recent offshore storms. The increased ocean water levels directly impacted the subsurface groundwater, resulting in surfacing in the low-lying areas along these roadways.
