Planning of the extension of the West Side Multi Use Path is underway and will include several key segments of pedestrian pathways along S. Croatan Hwy. south of Jockey's Ridge State Park.
• Phase 8A – Planned construction of a 10' wide multi-use pathway on the west side of S. Croatan Highway, spanning from Soundside Road to W. Danube Street in conjunction with the construction of a 6' wide sidewalk from Dune Street to Deering Street (East Side). This phase also includes the construction of approximately 1500 linear feet of water service line on the West side of Highway 158 from Soundside Road to Danube Street. On December 11, the Board of Commissioners directed a notice of award be given to RPC Contracting Inc., as they were found to be the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. Construction for this phase of the multi-use pathway is estimated to commence in mid-January and finish towards the end of April 2020.
• Phase 8B - Planned construction of a 10' wide multi-use pathway on the west side of S. Croatan Highway, spanning two separate sections; from W. Danube Street to W. Seachase Dr., and from W. Baymeadow Drive to Gull Street. Permit drawings are currently being developed. Bids are anticipated to be advertised in early January with an estimated construction commencement timeframe of Winter 2020.
