Feet on Nags Head Multi Use Path

•    Phase 8A – Planned construction of a 10’ wide multi-use pathway on the west side of S. Croatan Hwy., spanning from W. Soundside Rd. to W. Danube St. in conjunction with the construction of a 6’ wide sidewalk from Dune St. to Deering St. (East Side). Working from the South end of the project to the North, RPC has begun concrete formwork. Next week, concrete installation will begin, weather permitting.  The water line installation work will conclude early next week followed by a future connection to a companion waterline project approaching from the north. Work will typically occur between the hours of 7am and 6pm, Monday – Friday.  Expect temporary lane closures in the active construction work zone area.

Background
In 2014 the Town of Nags Head completed a pedestrian plan that recommended a prioritized list of pedestrian projects. To date, the town has completed the portion from Eight Street to Hollowell Street. (Phases 1-7) Looking forward, the projects south of Jockeys Ridge State Park are the highest ranked projects from the pedestrian plan and recent FOCUS Nags Head project. The upcoming project phases include the planned construction of a 10’ wide multi-use path from Soundside Rd. to W. Danube Street and a 6’ wide sidewalk connection from Deering St. north to Dune St. (Phase 8A). Two additional phases (Phase 8B & 8C) are planned and currently being advertised on the Town of Nags Head website. These phases include the construction of a 10’ wide concrete multi-use pathway with associative grading, drainage and incidental work spanning along the western extents of S. Croatan Hwy. from W. Danube St to Epstein St., and from W. Baymeadow Dr. to Gull Street.
