Due to a problem with the submerged pipe just north of MP 15, the dredge is currently working at another subline further south, near Mile Post 16, just north of Jennette's Pier. Progress will continue north from the subline near MP 16 until the subline north of MP 15 is repaired. Then, construction is planned to move back to the MP 15 subline so construction can continue to move south about 5,000 feet. However, these plans could change and we'll let you know if they do.
We will begin installing sand fencing and sprigging to stabilize the new beach next week in the south end of Nags Head. Work will only take place during the day and there should be little interference with beach activities.
Thank you for your patience! We're excited about our new beach and hope you are, too.
The project is expected to be complete in late August or early September.
NOTES
Due to several factors such as weather and equipment issues, to name a few, it is hard to predict where construction will be farther out than 7 days.
Parking at the Forrest Street beach access will be closed for the duration of the project. The parking lot at the Juncos Street public beach access is expected to be re-opened by the end of June. Pedestrian access at both sites is still permitted. Lifeguard stands are in place but may be moved a few feet to accommodate construction traffic.
