Short-Term Rental Registration Now Active
The Town of Nags Head’s registration program for Short-Term Rentals (i.e. Airbnb's or VRBO’s, etc.) is now active. Short-Term Rentals can involve the rental of a whole house or a portion of a resident-occupied house. Short-Term Rentals are required to be registered, with some exceptions. More information on Short-Term Rentals and the registration program is available here: Short-Term Rental Registration FAQ (PDF) and the registration form may be accessed here: Short-Term Rental Registration Fillable Form
Should you have any questions or need any assistance, please email Planning@nagsheadnc.gov or call 252-441-7016.
4/17/19 The Board of Commissioners recently adopted an ordinance amending the Town Code that requires owners/operators of Short-Term Rentals (rooms or homes rented for less than 30 days) to register such rentals with the Town with a $25 fee; only those Short-Term Rentals not managed by a real estate broker would require registration. Please note, in most cases an owner/operator is not required to hold a separate Business License/Registration. There will be a separate registration form for Short-Term Rentals and owners/operators should not use the Business License/Registration form that is available online. While the Town does not expect the Short-Term Rental application and registration process to be available until mid-May, registration is not required until December 31, 2019. Any questions may be directed to the Town of Nags Head Planning & Development Department at 252-441-7016 or by emailing michael.zehner@nagsheadnc.gov – Department Staff is also happy to take contact information for owners/operators so that they may be notified when the registration process is available.
