The beach has been reopened to driving (for those with a Town permit) following the strong cold front that passed through.
Please be careful around the ramps, as people will be working on moving the sand. There is an escarpment around Town Hall (Milepost 14). Green buoy number 9 has washed up on shore near Gulf Stream beach access, and the Coast Guard is aware and will be moving that soon. Please be cautious. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us 252-441-6386.
Why close the beach? When we have high surf and beach erosion, drivers may not see dangerous scarps (steep slope or a miniature cliff) or, due to the lack of available beach, they may drive onto the dunes and private property.
