Beach Nourishment

At their June 20, 2018 meeting, Nags Head’s Board of Commissioners approved several items related to contracting and funding for the Town’s 2018 beach nourishment project.

  • The Board awarded the Hurricane Matthew beach restoration project to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock. A disaster assistance grant obligated by FEMA and the State of North Carolina in the amount of $16,233,837.14 will reimburse the Town for costs associated with placing 1.4 million cubic yards of sand on the beach. The Town’s regularly scheduled beach nourishment project, which will place 2.3 million cubic yards of sand on the beach at the same time the Hurricane Matthew restoration project is underway, was awarded to Great Lakes at the Board’s June 6, 2018 meeting.
  • The Board authorized Town Manager Cliff Ogburn to execute the construction contract with Great Lakes for the 2019 joint project.
  • The Board approved items related to borrowing money for the 2019 combined project.
