Planning work towards extending the west side multi-use path is progressing and will include several key segments along US 158/South Croatan Highway south of Jockey's Ridge State Park.
In 2014 the Town completed a pedestrian plan that recommended a prioritized list of pedestrian projects. To-date, the Town has completed the portion from Eight Street to Hollowell Street (phases 1-7).
Looking forward, the projects south of Jockey's Ridge State Park are the highest ranked from the pedestrian plan and recent FOCUS Nags Head project. The upcoming projects for Fiscal Year 2019-20 include:
- Phase 8A - Construct a 10' wide multi use pathway on the west side of US 158, Soundside Road to Deering Street. Also, construct a 5' wide sidewalk from Dune St to Deering St (East Side). Field Survey is complete, Design development is complete, and Construction drawings are in progress, with estimated construction in winter/spring 2020.
- Phase 8B - Construct a 10' wide multi use pathway on the west side of US 158, Baymeadow Drive to Gull Street. Field Survey is complete, Design development is in progress, with estimated construction in winter/spring 2020.
- Phase 8C- Construct a 10’ wide multi-use pathway along the west side of South Croatan Highway between Danube Street and Mall Drive. Field survey work has been completed. Design development and construction will proceed as time and available funds permit.
