Temporary Road Closures

Update, October 30, 2025

A Town of Nags Head contractor is expected to begin street resurfacing operations on Friday, October 31. 

Streets to be Resurfaced

  • Albatross Street Beach Access
  • Abalone Street Beach Access
  • East Ario Street
  • East Albatross Street
  • East Atlas Street
  • East Driftwood Drive
  • East Gallery Row
  • East Abalone Street
  • Gannett Street
  • South Memorial Avenue (from East Bittern Street to East Eighth Street)

Sequence of Work

  • Crews will begin with beach access resurfacing, then move to the east/west streets and Gannett Street, finishing with South Memorial Avenue.
  • The Albatross Street and Abalone Street Beach Accesses will be closed overnight on Wednesday, October 30 to allow paving to begin the morning of Thursday, October 31.

Project Timeline

Paving operations will continue into next week and are expected to take about four days to complete, weather permitting.

After resurfacing, crews will complete shoulder work, hydroseeding, and general cleanup.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our streets and beach accesses . Please use caution when traveling near active work zones.


Update, October 21, 2025

The storm pipe replacements taking place in the Gallery Row/South Memorial Avenue area in north Nags Head will be complete soon. The next step, road paving, could start in the next day or so and is expected to continue for four to five days, weather permitting. 

Please plan ahead and expect minor delays. 

Thank you for your patience as we complete this critical work.

Temporary road closures will continue along South Memorial Avenue as part of ongoing street, waterline, and drainage improvements. If you are traveling in the area, please reduce your speed and stay alert for changing traffic patterns. Barricades and signage will be posted to guide both drivers and pedestrians safely through the work zone.
