[ARCHIVED] South Old Oregon Inlet Road Drainage Improvements – Project Update

Caution sign on a Blue Sky with Clouds

Work is underway on South Old Oregon Inlet Road as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in Nags Head. Two key projects are currently in progress:

  1. Force Main Pipe Installation – 8600 Block of South Old Oregon Inlet Road
Crews are installing a 6-inch force main pipe, a pressurized pipe that helps carry stormwater to a drainage area when gravity can't do the job on its own, using horizontal directional drilling. This work stretches from the 8700 block near the infiltration basin to Harvest Street.
  2. Stormwater System Upgrades – Harvest Street Intersection with South Old Oregon Inlet Road
Stormwater infrastructure improvements are being made at the intersection of Harvest Street and South Old Oregon Inlet Road, covering the area from 8529 to 8601 South Old Oregon Inlet Road.

Traffic and Pedestrian Notice
A temporary pipe ramp has been installed across South Old Oregon Inlet Road near Harvest Street. Drivers should slow down and proceed with caution due to the ramp. Portions of the multi-use path in the area are also temporarily closed to pedestrians.

Construction will continue south toward Tides Drive before shifting north again. Thank you for your patience as we improve local infrastructure.
