Update on South Croatan Highway Road Closure to Repair Old Waterline Causing Road Undermining
Initially, northbound traffic on South Croatan Highway near Jockey's Ridge will use the center turn lane while the “exploratory” roadwork is being done. Please be aware that this could change if greater problems are found and revert to the original road closure in entirety for northbound traffic. Please follow the signs and be mindful of the workers in the area.
South bound traffic will travel as normal.
The northbound traffic will shift to the center lane due starting at Jockey's Ridge Crossing and continuing until just past Hollowell Street.
Original Closure Plan
Roadwork is taking place for NORTHBOUND traffic on South Croatan Highway starting at Soundside Road (by Mulligans) to Hollowell Street. Businesses on the closed northbound section of South Croatan Highway will have “local traffic only” privileges for customers to access them. However, the road from north of Conch Street to Hollowell Street will be completely CLOSED - meaning you MUST turn at Conch Street to continue the detour if you are at a local business in the affected area. Large vehicles and trucks will need to go back southbound and use Soundside Road to continue north, due to the narrow width of Conch Street.
This project is not expected to last longer than three weeks.
As we all know, detours can be annoying and inconvenient, but please exercise caution and consideration for the workers who are just doing their jobs.
