Town of Nags Head
Give us your input into how you would like Whalebone Park to look in the future at a meeting on March 3, 3033 at the Nags Head Board of Commissioners room. It is an open house style meeting, so stop by anytime between 4:30 pm and 7 pm. Bring the kids so they can have their say, too.

We've started working in south NH this week, conducting maintenance on our water infrastructure. We will likely have to close one lane of South Old Oregon Inlet Road for short periods to ensure our safety. We ask that you drive extra cautiously when in the area.

At their February 2, 2022 meeting, The Board adopted the amended Residential Stormwater Ordinance. The intent of the new language is to simplify the ordinance, make it easier to understand and implement, while still managing water quantity and water quality. There are also changes to the fill requirements that allow for more flexibilty with respect to developing a lot. All residential projects that add 500 Square Feet or more of built upon area will still require a stormwater management plan, however the plan itself will be more flexible and not require volume calculations. Please visit the Town's stormwater ordiance website for more information. If you have specific questions about residential stormwater, contact Kate Jones at 252-449-4209 or if you have general questions about residential permit requirements you can contact the planning department at 252-441-7016.

Water System Flushing Taking Place

The Town of Nags Head is conducting the annual maintenance flushing of its water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time.

If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

Read the Water Flushing FAQs.

What to Expect
Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water
In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.
If you have any questions, please call 252-441-1122.

Schedule
  • Monday, February 21, 2022 through Friday, February 25, 2022
    • Flushing will not take place this week.

Please have your items out by Monday, February 21, 2022 for the Week 4 Sweep. We will be in the east side neighborhoods from Hollowell Street to 8th Street (including between the highways BTH). For more information click here.
