Town of Nags Head
A winter storm Thursday night and into the early Saturday could bring snow to Nags Head.

A significant winter storm could bring ice and snow to eastern North Carolina beginning Thursday night into Saturday morning. In addition, temperatures are forecasted to be cold on Saturday and Sunday nights, so our roads may freeze. Though forecasters are not expecting, at least right now, significant winds and coastal flooding, keep in mind that should sound water blow across the US 64 causeway, it will make travel there dangerous.

Our local National Weather Service office will be holding a webinar on the storm at 4:30 pm today. Register for the webinar.

Water System Flushing Taking Place

The Town of Nags Head is conducting the annual maintenance flushing of its water system to remove sediment and other deposits that can build up over time.

If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. Water may also stagnate in lesser used parts of the distribution system. This can result in degraded water quality.

Read the Water Flushing FAQs.

What to Expect
Work typically takes place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
When we are flushing the water lines in your area, you may observe any or all of the following conditions:

  • low water pressure
  • no water pressure
  • discolored water
In addition, you are advised to raise the lever on automatic ice makers and to check the water quality prior to washing clothes or running automatic dishwashers.

The schedule may change due to emergencies and other workload priorities.
If you have any questions, please call 252-441-1122.

Schedule
  • Monday, January 24, 2022 through Friday, January 28, 2021
    • There will be no flushing this week.

Similar to pizza boxes, as a clean napkin, it can be recycled. Once you wipe those greasy fingers, the fibers become coated with that grease, making it unable to be recycled. Being mindful of what goes in your curbside recycling bin is very helpful to the recycling process. Thank you for being committed to curbside recycling!
