News From Governor Cooper - Following New CDC Guidance on Face Coverings, Governor Cooper Lifts Many COVID-19 Restrictions

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. shared an update on the state’s COVID-19 progress. Throughout the pandemic, state officials have taken a data-driven approach and have been guided by the science in making decisions. Following yesterday’s guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that fully vaccinated individuals can safely do most activities without wearing a mask or the need to social distance from others, the state will remove its indoor mask mandate for most settings. Additionally, the state will lift all mass gathering limits and social distancing requirements. These changes are now in effect.

“We can take this step today because the science shows our focus on getting people vaccinated is working,” said Governor Cooper. “But to keep moving forward – and to make sure that we keep saving lives – more people need to get vaccinated.”

Thank you to those who have placed their blue carts out for the Town to retrieve and then re-issue to curbside recycling service customers. Since the new subscription recycling program is voluntary, the Town’s ordinance no longer requires a minimum number of recycling carts. However, there is a requirement for seasonal rental units to maintain one trash cart for every two bedrooms. Property owners who paid a fee for additional carts may call Nags Head’s Public Works office at 252-441-1122 to inquire about a credit/refund or cart swap.

Reminder Regarding Purchased Blue Recycling Carts

Thank you to those who have placed their blue carts out for the Town to retrieve and then re-issue to curbside recycling service customers. Since the new subscription recycling program is voluntary, the Town’s ordinance no longer requires a minimum number of recycling carts. However, there is a requirement for seasonal rental units to maintain one trash cart for every two bedrooms. Property owners who paid a fee for additional carts may call Nags Head’s Public Works office at 252-441-1122 to inquire about a credit/refund or cart swap.

Note - Please remember that to limit confusion on how carts may be used, we're collecting the blue recycling carts from each residence and reissuing them (with a yellow recycling sticker on the lids) to those households subscribing through TFC. Our goal is for only those properties in the subscription program to have recycling carts.

Be sure to place your blue recycling cart by the road so we may collect them.

What You Can and Cannot Recycle

TFC Recycling now has over 500 curbside recycling subscribers in Nags Head! If you have not signed up for the $9/month service, please do so through TFC Recycling. Note that TFC is requiring a two-year, 12 month-long contract. There is no seasonal option available.

Contamination of the recycling stream is a huge issue. Please be sure to recycle only what is on the image below. For additional information, check out a video from TFC's plant, in which their education outreach coordinator, Kathy Russell, shows us just how contaminated many of their recycling loads are and explains what can and cannot be recycled.
