Town of Nags Head
Nags Head Veteran's Day Ceremony Canceled in 2020

New Video Celebrates Veterans/Annual Ceremony Canceled

The Town has canceled its annual Veterans Day ceremony this year because most of our attendees are older individuals who are likely to suffer the most serious consequences if they catch COVID-19. Instead, we've created a video celebrating our veterans. We hope you find the video to be a worthy commemoration.

Thank you vets for your patriotism, your willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good, and for supporting our ceremony each year. We're honored to have you here on the Outer Banks.

NOTE- Town offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11, 2020 in honor of Veterans Day.
Nags Head Fire Rescue Fire Hydrant Testing Underway

Critical Fire Hydrant Testing Underway

Each year during the offseason, Nags Head Fire Rescue conducts critical fire hydrant testing to verify water flow that may be needed for fire protection. The testing is a requirement of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal's Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire rating system.

All fire hydrants must be flow tested to determine the available water flow and pressures.

For the current location of the fire hydrant testing, please see the news item in the right upper corner of this page. If nothing is listed, then there are no plans to test a hydrant at this time. We will update nagsheadnc.gov/hydranttesting and Nags Head Fire Rescue's Facebook page, with the latest testing location information.

You can also subscribe to receive email notifications when Nags Head Fire Rescue posts news, such as fire hydrant testing locations. Enter your email address and be sure to subscribe to the Fire news flashes.

Testing takes place between 9 am and 5 pm.

Nags Head water customers in the hydrant testing area may experience the following temporary conditions after testing takes place: reduced water pressure and water discoloration.

Call Nags Head Fire Rescue at 252-441-5909 if you have any questions.

About the North Carolina Response Rating System
The North Carolina Response Rating System ranges from one (highest) to 10 (not recognized as a certified fire department by the state), with most rural departments falling into the 9S category. Nags Head property owners currently enjoy an ISO rating of 2. While lower ratings do not necessarily indicate poor service, a higher rating does suggest that a department is overall better equipped to respond to fires in its district. Higher ratings can also significantly lower homeowners insurance rates in that fire district.

Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program

The Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program is a new statewide initiative that may provide rent and utility assistance to eligible low- and moderate-income renters experiencing financial hardship due to the economic effects of COVID-19. The new program will help prevent evictions and utility disconnections in order to promote housing stability during the ongoing pandemic.

HOPE is an initiative of the NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. The HOPE Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program – Coronavirus and the U.S. Department of the Treasury Coronavirus Relief Funds.
