Town of Nags Head
Interim Town Manager Greg Sparks

Meet Interim Town Manager Greg Sparks

On Wednesday of this week, Nags Head's Board of Commissioners appointed Greg Sparks as the the town's interim manager beginning this morning at 10 am. He is replacing Cliff Ogburn who resigned to become the Southern Shores town manager.

A recent retiree from Eureka, a port city on the northern coast of California, where he served as the city manager from May 2014 until December 2019, Mr. Sparks has nearly 40 years of management experience, including service in communities with tourism-based economies, such as Mountain Village, CO, home of the popular Telluride ski resort. Mr. Sparks holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nevada and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa.

“Greg clearly has the experience to provide a high level of guidance and stability for our town while we search for a full-time manager,” said Mayor Ben Cahoon. “In our interview, he impressed the Board with his depth of experience, his professionalism, and his enthusiasm for helping Nags Head through this transitional period. His knowledge of coastal and tourism-driven communities will be an asset to our town.”

The Board will discuss the hiring process for a new town manager in the upcoming weeks.

Annual Beach Surveying Taking Place - Vessels May Be Coming Close to Shore

Annual Beach Surveying Taking Place

Survey crews with McKim & Creed are conducting hydrographic and land-based beach surveys starting this week and over the next few weeks as part of our annual beach monitoring work.

You may see their employees walking on the beach or driving an ATV or pick up truck to transport equipment or personnel.

Also, their hydrographic surveys will be conducted using vessels approximately 22-28 feet in length, so don’t be surprised to see a boat coming in close to shore at times. They are just getting readings for their surveys. The captain is experienced and will use the utmost caution, but PLEASE give him a little space if the boat is close to shore.

All vessels and land-based vehicles will be identified with the McKim & Creed logo.
