Town of Nags Head
Today is a sad day for our town. Not only is it Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is a day that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty, but tragically, it is the anniversary of the day on which we lost one of our own. In 2009, Police Sergeant Earl Murray died in a car accident while responding to a call. He had been in law enforcement for 26 years and left behind a wife and two daughters. Please take a few minutes today to remember not only Earl, but also the many other law enforcement officers who have lost their lives or have been disabled in the line of duty.

Nags Head Town Hall Spring 2020

Note From the Town of Nags Head

As we move forward with Governor Cooper's phased approach to re-opening, our information dissemination practices will change.

The Dare County Coronavirus Response page will continue to be updated daily with positive test results, FAQs, and weekly video messages. We ask that you monitor this page for the latest information.

If there is any Nags Head-related Coronavirus information, we will send it to you via this email broadcast, but we will not continue the thrice-weekly emails at this time. Should conditions change and a more broad approach to information release is again needed, you'll be the first to know via this email broadcast.

We truly appreciate your patience with the amount of information we've been sending out and with learning to do business with us using methods that don't require face-to-face contact. Thank you.

Sanitation News

There is no change to Nags Head's solid waste collection schedule due to Memorial Day, but our bulk item/brush collection yard will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2020.

Reminders

  • Due to the suspension of our curbside recycling collection service, the last day that blue recycling carts will be emptied on the Blue Sanitation Route is Monday, May 18, 2020. Those on the Green and Red Sanitation Routes must no longer put their blue recycling carts out for collection on Wednesdays. You can, however, use the blue carts for trash disposal.
  • You can still take your commingled recyclables to either Nags Head's town hall at 5401 South Croatan Highway or to our public works facility at 2200 Lark Avenue. These recyclables will be hauled to Virginia where they will be converted into clean energy. We also have containers for cardboard ONLY; this material will be transported to Dare County for resale.
  • The summer collection schedule begins on Monday, May 18, 2020, so be sure to roll out your carts the evening before collection day because we'll be by early to empty them.
  • The curbside collection of bulk items and brush will cease for the summer on May 24, 2020 (the service normally ends on March 31 each year but was extended due to the pandemic).

Come to Your Senses, Complete Your Census

Nags Head residents - we're still lagging way behind in our Census response rate and it's a wee bit embarrassing, frankly.

Before life really kicks back into gear, visit my2020census.gov to fill out your survey. It only takes 10 minutes. The 2020 Census data will help inform how billions of dollars are distributed to states and communities every year for the next 10 years.

Dare County has said they'll update the map (https://www.darenc.com/government/2020-census) each week with new response rates. So, unless we kick this into a much higher gear, we're going to continue to be humiliated EVERY WEEK.

All that’s needed to complete the census is your physical street address. Visit my2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020.
Come to your senses, complete your Census.
