[ARCHIVED] S. Memorial Ave. Drainage Replacement Project

IMG_0090

Project construction for the S. Memorial Ave. drainage replacement project is underway. The utility contractor conducting the work, Hatchell Concrete Inc., has mobilized personnel and staged equipment and material for the proposed construction within the project limits. Pipe material will typically be placed along the project route and up to several hundred feet in advance of the active construction area.

The construction sequence is planned to begin at the southern end of the project, adjacent to the existing open channel at the end of S. Memorial Ave., and progress northward towards the intersection of E. Bladen St. and S. Memorial Ave. Existing vegetation along the project route may need to be trimmed and in some cases removed to accommodate the removal and replacement of the existing drainage pipe.

In total, the project time is expected to take eight to twelve weeks to complete, weather permitting. If property owners have landscape or other above-grade improvements within this right-of-way area, we would request these items to be removed in advance of construction. For smaller landscape improvements, the items can be re-installed post-construction. Items left within the construction path, the contractor will attempt to relocate and re-install but provides no guarantees.

When construction commences, we ask motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise caution when circulating within the active construction zone. Weekly project updates will be provided to inform residents of construction progress in addition to potential changes in neighborhood traffic circulation and planned utility service interruptions. For questions related to the project, please feel free to contact David Ryan, PE at 252.441.6221 or david.ryan@nagsheadnc.gov. We thank you in advance for your patience during construction.
