[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Dorian Debris Collection

Hurricane Recovery

General Hurricane Dorian Debris Information

The Town is currently collecting Hurricane Dorian-related debris from the side of the road.

Please place vegetative debris such as brush by the side of the road in front of your home in a pile that is separate from household debris, such as deck chairs.

Please only place Hurricane Dorian-related debris into these piles. On October 1, we will resume our curbside bulk item/brush collection service. The Town also provides a collection yard, which is open three days/week. For more information on these services, click here.

Progress Updates

Friday, September 20, 2019
The Town has nearly completed its first pass through the neighborhoods west of South Croatan Highway. We expect to start collecting debris in Old Nags Head Cove the week starting Monday, September 23, 2019.

The Town will begin collecting Dorian-related debris from south Nags Head and the homes and businesses east of South Croatan Highway starting October 1, 2019.

Once the first collection has taken place, the Town will make an additional collection run in case home or businesses owners have not had the chance to clean up their properties.

Note - Please only place Hurricane Dorian-related debris into these piles. On October 1, we will resume our curbside bulk item/brush collection service. The Town also provides a collection yard, which is open three days/week. For more information on these services, click here

FYI-After a large scale, presidentially-declared disaster such as Hurricane Dorian, the Town of Nags Head will either use its own forces to collect debris or, when debris collection is beyond our scope, the Town will use a pre-determined contractor. The Federal Emergency Management Agency does NOT collect debris AND the Town does NOT wait to see if we will be reimbursed by FEMA before we start collecting storm-related debris.
